INTRODUCING
A SERVANT LEADER. KNOWLEDGABLE. COMPETENT.
These words describe the leadership of Sonya Jones, a dedicated public servant in Fort Bend County. A mother and grandmother, Sonya has a proven record of service, most notably as a Trustee for the Fort Bend Independent School District. In that role, she championed higher standards of academic excellence and played a key part in bringing the district’s Special Education program into compliance—an achievement that prevented a state takeover. Today, Sonya has returned in continued service to the residents of Fort Bend County by seeking the Office of County Clerk as a Democrat candidate. She has expressed joy and confidence is serving “All” residents of Fort Bend County and not the hidden agenda of a small faction. When elected, Sonya will be the first African American to head and lead the Office of the County Clerk in Fort Bend County.
Sonya earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Science (Psychology and Sociology) from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. After graduation, she gave back to her alma mater as an academic advisor and later as assistant director of the Houston Weekend College. There, she worked closely with the registrar to ensure accurate student records, regulatory compliance, and adherence to accreditation standards set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Sonya later transitioned into K–12 education, serving as a Mathematics and Science teacher in the Houston Independent School District. In addition to her work in education, she has served her community as a director and secretary for Fort Bend County MUD #131. Earlier in her career, she also gained valuable experience at the national level, collaborating with attorneys, legislators, and other professionals on research and drafting of public policy.
Her educational pursuits reflect her lifelong commitment to leadership and service. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Lamar University and is a candidate for a Juris Doctor at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio.
Sonya’s dedication to excellence has been recognized throughout her life. Her honors include the Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence, induction into Psi Chi—the International Honor Society in Psychology, a merit award presented by Jesse H. Jones and Mary Gibbs with the Houston Endowment, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship for academic achievement.
Fort Bend County has invested in Sonya as a rising professional and community leader, and she remains committed to giving back through servant leadership, integrity, and a passion for progress.
